The Submarine Heritage: TUDOR Watches in the Service of the US Navy from 1950 to 1980

The US Navy has used TUDOR diving watches for decades, starting in the late 1950s. The Navy SEALs in particular wore these watches, from their creation in 1962 until the 1980s.
Underwater Demolition Teams, Seabees and Navy Dive School instructors used these rugged instruments, which played a role in teaching the basics of scuba diving at the Underwater Swimmers School and in maintaining submarine bases in the United States and around the world. In doing so, TUDOR watches have also contributed to the research and development of innovative and pioneering underwater technologies.

Pelagos FXD: The Perfect Fusion of Technical Innovation and Naval Heritage

Originally developed with active duty combat swimmers, the Pelagos FXD case is based on specifications that are as precise as they are demanding. This is why it includes unique features in the TUDOR collection, such as its fixed lugs machined directly into the 42mm titanium case for greater robustness and reliability. These form an extension of the horns and are a key element of the model's characteristic silhouette. The Pelagos FXD also has an ergonomic 60-notch rotating bezel. Unidirectional, with a ceramic insert graduated 60 minutes filled with a luminous material, the bezel meets the ISO 6425:2018 standard for diving watches.

From an aesthetic point of view, this Pelagos FXD model is inspired by the TUDOR diving watches historically used by the US Navy from the end of the 1960s to the beginning of the 1980s.
Black in color, this Pelagos FXD presents square indexes and hands with a characteristic angular shape, nicknamed “Snowflake” and introduced in 1969 to improve the luminous intensity of watches in low light. It is also equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel with a sandblasted ceramic insert filled with a luminous material. Its 42mm titanium case is water-resistant to 200 meters and entirely satin-finished to produce a matte effect that limits reflections.

Au Fil de l'Eau et du Temps: 70 Years of History with TUDOR

The history of the TUDOR diver's watch dates back to 1954 and the launch of the reference 7922. Water-resistant to 100 metres, it was the first in a long line of "divers".

Accessible, robust, reliable and precise, it is representative of the brand's tool-watch philosophy. The seven decades since its introduction have seen the continuous improvement of this TUDOR diver's watch and its unanimous acclaim by professionals in the field, including some of the world's leading navies. With the introduction of the first generation Pelagos FXD in 2021, TUDOR continues to write its underwater history alongside some of the world's most prestigious navies.
